Church membership is not a requirement for worshipping at St Chad’s.
St Chad’s is an Anglican church and is a parish of the Diocese of Saldanha Bay. The church started from humble beginnings in a home in 1978 and as its membership grew, Sunday services were held at the Leibrandt van Niekerk Centre.
The land for the St Chad’s chapelry was bought in 1970 but it wasn’t until 1982 when building operations started. The current church building was completed in September 1982 and was named after Saint Chad, a Bishop of Lichfield, England, who was known for his missionary journeys and for establishing the Christian faith in England. On the 12th December 1982 Archbishop Philip Russel dedicated the completed church building.
In 1986 the Chapelry of St Chad’s was granted a pastoral charge and became the Parish of St Chad’s in the Archdeaconry of Maitland, and the Revd Brian Hill was appointed its first Rector. During his incumbency, he introduced the second Sunday service. In October 1995 the Revd Des Roberts was instituted as the new Rector. Fr Des and his wife Kathy were instrumental in introducing the Alpha and The Life Worth Living courses; bringing the Transformed Living in Christ (TLC) to St Chad's; and starting the Chapelry of St. Lawrence in the Du Noon settlement near Table View.
The present Rector is Fr Tobias Mutale who was installed on 7 November 2013.
The Mission of St. Chad’s is to live up to its motto – “To know Christ and to make Him known”.
Our vision is to be a nurturing, Christ centred community, loving, helping and supporting one another in the family of God.
We want to be a Church that is welcoming, nurturing and open to all people, reaching out in the love of Christ to the lost, engaging in the public life of the community and responding to their needs both spiritually and in other areas of their lives, providing practical help, emotional and counselling support.
We will strive to encounter the Christ within ourselves, so that the lost may come to desire to know Him better.
We invite you to join us for dynamic worship, life-changing ministry, and sincere fellowship. All our services are conducted in English.
Anyone who normally receives communion, even in another church, is welcome to receive communion. You do not have to be a member to participate.
